New Bars/Restaurants in DC

  • So I'm down in DC 2x a month visiting my gf. I always enjoy taking her out to fun places, but the scene is growing a little tired. Are there any new bars/clubs/lounges/restaurants that people in the mid-20s would enjoy.

Typically, we end up in Georgetown (:o), DuPont (), or Adams Morgan (:td:) at some crappy bar. I'd love to surprise her with a place that's new and exciting. Also, are there any websites similiar to www.newyorkmetro.com or www.philly.com that provides constantly updated resources regarding the nightlife?

    thanks in advance!

  • Two of our faves, Tenh Penh and Fogo de Chao, are not new, but always a good visit.

Don't overlook the potential for a quick jaunt to Alexandria. Landini Brothers used to be one of my faves there.

Also, since you say you sometimes end up in Georgetown, I'll stick in a shameless plug for our restaurant. We operate the Five Guys Burgers and Fries in Georgetown on Wisconsin Avenue.

It was even the site of a FT Happy Hour last year, complete with a couple of bottles of vintage wine from my cellar. We'll probably have another one there later this year if the group wants.

In addition to that blog, they host a "live" chat Thursdays at 1 pm DC time. You can also run a search for bars on the Post's website.

  • I am sort of partial to the Penn Quarter / Gallery Place / Chinatown area near the Verizon Center. Its more restaurants than bars and its still "filling-out" a little bit but it has really come a long way in the last 12-18 months. I am not a restaurant afficianado so i can't tell you if there is a brand new hip place, but there seem to be lots of places that have opened within the last year or two.

I've been to a few Wizards games at Verizon this year and its actually starting to feel like a real city on game nights.
