    Anyone have any advice, I'm thinking of getting an account just for the miles on US Air.

  • Overall,I agree with not using these "phony" Visa. There are some check cards (not debit cards,per se) that have all the protection of Visa's.

  • I advise not to use debit cards at all. There's too much risk involved, since cash comes directly out of your checking account.

    I had a friend use a debit card at a take out place once. They accidentally significantly overcharged him when they went back to put the tip on (so he never saw the receipt). They took out a pretty significant amount of money; had he not caught it in time, he would have been bouncing checks.

    Unless you have some utilities or such that only accept debit cards, I'd stay away from them.

  • There is a $30 annual fee for this card. I flat refuse to pay a fee for the right to access to my money the bank already has and is earning interest on, especially via a service that costs the bank less money than it would if I were to write a check. B of A's regular debit/ATM card is free.

    Why pay a fee for a debit card when there are free credit cards (no annual fee) with miles given up-front? You can get a list of these on my web site below. Click on Free Frequent Flyer Miles in the left menu, then on Credit Cards in the top menu.

  • Doppy, again, as usual, you make sense!

    When you use a debit card you do not have the protection against fraud that you have with a credit card.

    B of A links its ATM, debit card and debit VISA all together. It is a wonderful way to get a fine rate of exchange overseas!

    And if you are over 55, their are no ATM charges for using another bank's machine.

  • Ref the brochure information on over 55 and ATM fees, I sent an email query to BA asking if it was true that they waived ATM fees from other banks for their over 55 customers.

    Their reply:
    Thank you for your inquiry.

    We appreciate you using the Online Banking service and value you as a
    customer. Please be advised ATM fees are not waived for customers over
    the age of fifty five. We apologize you were given incorrect
    information. If we may be of further assistance, please contact us by
    e-mail or by phone at 1.800.933.6262.

  • I didn't find the data on the 'over 55' program on the BA WEB site, I found the data on a brochure in the bank lobby. I hope that helps.
